Growing Basics
- Cucumbers are annuals in Minnesota.
- Sunlight: Full sun (6-8 hours daily).
- Soil: Moist, well-drained soil.
- Transplanting: Plant at the same depth as in the pot when soil reaches 65°; handle gently to avoid disturbing roots. If your seedling container has multiple plants, you can plant up to 2 seedlings right next to each other (cut all but 2 down to soil level to avoid disturbing the roots); otherwise, space them 8-10" apart.
- Watering: Water frequently to keep the soil evenly moist.
- Fertilization: Use a fertilizer high in potassium and phosphorus (5-10-10) every 1-2 weeks once flowering starts. Avoid over-fertilizing with nitrogen to ensure proper fruiting.
Other Tips
- Mulch to retain moisture and reduce weeds.
- Harvest frequently to keep plants producing.
- Provide a trellis for support.
